Lab: UCSD Youth Study
Description: The UCSD Youth Study is a project assessing
the neurobehavioral profiles of high-risk youth, including maltreated and
delinquent adolescents. We aim to determine the mental health, neuropsychological
and neurological contributors to poor functional outcomes as adolescent
youth transition into young adulthood. The project integrates public policy
issues (juvenile justice, child welfare) with basic science research (structural
and functional neuroimaging; genetic contributors to cycle of violence issues).
A "Neurobehavioral Profile" involves:
-Emotional, psychiatric and/or substance use difficulties
-Neurocognitive assessment through a neuropsychological battery
-fMRI to assess structural and functional neurological status
Many opportunities exist, depending on your time, interests and needs,
including:
-assist with data entry and form development using SPSS data builder
-assist with coding scheme development; compile and code evaluations
-with security clearance, the possibility to assist in supervised data collection
with juvenile delinquents in San Diego Probation
Department facilities
-assist with fMRI scanning sessions
Prerequisites:
-strong interpersonal skills and an ethical/professional demeanor
-PC proficiency required, SPSS/programming skills preferred
-propensity for detailed work and critical thinking/ problem solving skills
-must have taken upper division classes in psychology, neuropsychology,
neuroscience, and/or criminal justice
-must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and have at least 90 units
-minimum two quarter commitment
-5-6 hours/week = 2 units; 10-12 hours/week = 4 units

Lab: Granholm Schizophrenia Psychosocial Rehab Program
Lab at the VA Medical Center
Description:
The duties will include scoring, data entry, filing, attending lab meetings
of research outcomes, observing the testing of patients, and much more.
This is a great experience if you want to attend graduate school, go into
research, and/or if you are interested in schizophrenia.
Prerequisites:
- 10 hours per week
- GPA at least 3.0
- 2 quarter commitment
