We’re glad that you want to join us! Listed below are the minimum qualifications you must meet. To become a member you must apply at the end of 6th week of the preceding quarter. You will become a member the beginning of the quarter you apply for.
Qualifications
- Courses: Completed 3 semesters or 5 quarters of college courses
- Psychology: Completed 9 semester hours or 14 units of psychology courses.
*Note: Only upper division psychology courses count. - Class Rank: Must be in the top 35% of class in general scholarship
- GPA: Minimum 3.0 (out of 4.0) overall and 3.2 in psychology courses (only upper division courses).
Special Cases:
- Undergraduate transfer students must meet the requirements above and have completed 2 quarters at UCSD and 9 units of psychology courses at UCSD in order to establish a UCSD GPA to use in applying.
- For Grad Students only the GPA requirement applies.
- Transfering undergraduate and graduate students who are already Psi Chi members may become members by filling out a transfer of membership form and droping it off at the psychology undergraduate department office.
Membership Costs
Starting 2008, membership costs have changed!
Now, you only have to pay a one time $45 due. There will not be any more
quarterly dues or active/nonactive membership statuses/requirements.
Non-members are still welcome to take part in some of the Psi Chi event but will not be able to take advantage of some Psi Chi benefits (such as scholarships and reductions on prices for events/items).
